Thumbs up Fluval 205

I just picked up a Fluval 205 from Petsmart. i had noticed it a few times before as the box had been opened and then returned to the store. It had been 3 months since I first saw it and recently I've wanted to convert my filter to a canister so I kept a mental note. Well I went in today to get some of their "pest" snails for free and saw it. I decided to ask the manager if they would discount the item since it was "damaged." He opened the box and said well all the parts are here and sealed still, how is 15%? I just said I would think about it for a minute and let him know. He came back 3 minutes later after calling the head manager and they gave it to me for 30% off!!!! SO I got a $120 filter for $80, brand new just because someone had opened and then returned.

Today was a good day!

I got it all set up and running in like 20 minutes, they really make it out to be a lot more complicated than it is for setting these things up, just gotta make sure to get all the air out of the canister and tubing. I seeded with media from my old filter directly in the canister so I won't have any cycling issues. If I do have a mini cycle happen, my tank is heavily planted (main reason I wanted a canister and got rid of the HOB) and will help in reducing counts of anything that come up.

Moral of the story, ask and you shall receive! Sorry, I just needed to share with people who actually understand this... other people in my life don't understand my aquarium obsession, it's not a hobby anymore! I'm starting to do research on a 20 gallon salt water tank, but won't dive into that for some time, as I would like to move first (moving tanks is a pain, I've done it before).

Anyways, enjoy the super bow, that is if you like the NFLl!

congrats on the bargain and glad you found the installation easy,
i thought the same as you,i need to come here to chat fishies as...........
no one understands me,outside of here.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Check out ebay or craigslist, usually available there for a decent price, just have to make sure it functions. i was about to buy one on ebay and figured I'd look at petsmart again to double check they were still carrying the fluval.
