Filter question

I just set up my new 65g tank last night and installed the Eheim Pro II (2026) filter. There's nothing in the tank other than gravel, two rocks and driftwood. It took me forever to get the filter primed to keep it running as it kept a decent sized air pocket in the intake. I can't seem to get rid of the smaller pockets of air and even though I can't see an air bubble in the intake, every now and then the filter has a slight freeze and then resumes at full pace. The pause is very slight and is only noticable when you're watching it. If I reprime the filter it takes a while before the problem starts occuring again. Anyone have any experience in correcting this?

try this
whilst the filter is running
shake it (gently).
this often shifts the air around allowing it to be pumped out.
