Filter Media Question - Eheim 2229 wet/dry

We are setting up a 150 gallon tank! We bought it used from someone who previously used it for saltwater. We are in the process of cleaning it, and transforming it to freshwater. The tank came with a Eheim Wet/Dry 2229.

We have never owned a wet/dry filter (or even a canister) before and we are trying to figure out the proper filter media to use on the different trays in the filter. What do you use in your filter?

We plan on setting up just a beautiful, freshwater community tank on a MASSIVE scale!!

thanks,
amy

Welcome to Fishforum.com, Amy.

I only used filter floss and sponges in my own filters. You can add ceramic rings, lava rocks, gravel and many more to your filter. What fish do you plan to keep?

Sounds fun.8)

Good luck.:)

We are planning on getting giant danios, tiger barbs, pictus catfish, clown loaches, a black shark, and we are still figuring out the rest.
I would reconsider the black shark before getting it. A lot of loaches do not like being harassed and black sharks happen to be very aggressive and massive as well.

Oh, and as a side note, feel free to click names of fish in silver font for their database. We're still striving to improve them but eventually we'll get there.:)
