Filter help

I recently came into possession of a used 20 gallon tank that came with a Fluval 3 filter. From what I can tell it's an older model? I'm not sure if I have all the parts, as nothing seems to fit. Is this usable or should I just get a new filter?

As you can see from the second photo, I would assume that the intake tube would fit onto that part sticking out. But it doesn't even come close to fitting on there. The intake tube is in three detachable parts, so I'm thinking I'm missing a connector piece?

i dont believe a tube is required at all. if you put sponges into the plastic part there is no room for the tube. i had a fluval 4plus and dont remember a tube.[/i]

My Fluval 3+ doesn't have intake tubes. It pulls water in from the bottom. I'm confused as to what you are asking.

Maybe this will help. http://www.hagen.com/uk/aquatic/manuals/fluvi13.cfm

Herefishy: The link does help, thank you. I meant that I didn't know what to do with the white clear piece. I worded it wrong, intake tube was not what I meant. But it doesn't really connect to anything so I wasn't sure if it was actually a part of the Fluval or not.

And also, is this type of filter meant to be fully submerged? I'm assuming yes by the design, and that it doesn't have a warning illustrating a certain water level.

I place them in the corners of my aquarium and use them in pairs fully submerged depending on the model and the tank height.
