I have a 38 gallon tank with aqua- clear 70 have extra fluval c-3 put it on tank or is that to much. Thanks Jim in Baltimore Md

I'm not sure what a c-3 is, am assuming it's a hang on back filter. I have 2 hobs on mine and it lets me clean one once in a while with out disturbing the good bacteria in the other and causing a mini cycle. Also, I don't buy filter cartridges, I use media sponges and just rinse them in tank water. It's much cheaper and I never throw out the bacteria on the sponges as I would replacing the cartridges.

I would not add both, I think the Aquaclear 70 is more than sufficient and in some cases might be too much FLOW on a 38 gallon depending on the fish.

Right or wrong I try to utlize the manufacturer rating for my tank size, on a 38 gallon I would go with a Aquaclear 50.

However.... you do have to base the decision on the stocking and the profile/needs of the fish.

On my 55 Gallon Hap/Peacock set up I run two Aquaclear 70's because I knew it would be overstocked and as a result the extra filtration would be necessary.
