Extremely hot lighting question

I bought a new lighting system for my tank. its nothing too special just a Nova Extreme High output T5x2 lighting system. My question is, is the top of the lighting suppose to be burning hot? to the point where I cant touch it without burning my hand? sides are cool but the top of the casing is burning hot.

I have never had any kind of lighting except the original lighting that came with the tank so I am a little concerned

I'm thinking that normal. I tried that fixture but returned it because it was hot and because the fan on the side was too noisy. It sounded like a toy airplane running. Instead I went with a t-8 3x32watt fixture.

mine is extremely quiet. I should check the fans to see if they are working lol

Being hot though is ok?

I think that if you touch them and it "burns" your hand that can't be good. It sounds like a fire hazard, to me anyway. My lights run hot but I can still put my hand on them without getting burned. Someone else will have to concur but from what you're describing I wouldn't be comfortable using them.

I agree, a high output lighting system is going to be hot but it shouldn't be so hot you'd get burned from touching it. I'd contact the manufacturer or think about taking it back to the store.
