External Filter Tank

I am needing some help.
I have aquired yet another fish tank
180 gallon with a 30 gallon tank under for
filtration
I would like to upgrade ... what I mean by that is the
person had some bags in the tank with some media of some sort
( I have not looked inside yet ) LOL and might not ever.. lol
so I am wanting to do this the best way with some good products.
so any one that has this type of set up and can give me some info
PICS would be great... PLEASE educate me ...
thanks
Ron

all sump's there, the one in the top of the page isnt anywhere as effective as the second one due to the diffrent types of media and the four chambers. google "DIY sumps" there will be more than you can read in a day about everything you need to know. i also belive that somewhere in the saltwater aquariums section somebody has a sticky about sumps as they are usually used in a saltwater setup rather than a freshwater.

I had pers never built one, but if I'd do it I'd go for the set up in the 2nd picture with the different chambers. Set up pretty much like any given canister filter where you have the water come in, then rougher filter media, then medium size filter media and then real fine filter media.
Another thing I'd do is built any type given lid on to the sump, otherwise you'll have quite some evaporation as the water moves through it and depedning on your other critters in the house may wind up with dog/ cat hair in there as well, so I'd get a simple sheet of plexi glas and cover it up with some hinges attached for easy access if needed.
