which external filter..

Hi all,

Congratulations for the quality of information we can find here.

I've recently acquired an aquarium of 180 liters and I intend to buy an external filter. I am considering the following models:

- Eheim Professional 3 – 2073,
- Eheim Ecco Pro 300
- Fluval 305
I will start by having guppies, corydoras.,…. When the experience comes, I would like to have cichlids. Could you please advise me on which model to chose?
I do have the limitation that the external diameter of the hose cannot exceed 21 mm.

Thanks in advance,

Pedro Adamo

I'd def get Eheim - Better quality, lasts FOREVER, no noise, almost maintained free - I'd pers never buy a Fluval EVER again and only Eheim.

Hi again,

Thanks for the feedback. Have you got any experience with the Eheim Ecco Pro 300? It is a good option for a 180 liter tank?

Here are the specifications:
- for aquariua from 160 up to 300 litres
- Power consumption: 230 V/ 50 Hz 8 W
- Pump output: 750 l/h
- Pump head: 1,9 m
- Filter volume 2.8 l + 0.3 l (prefilter)
- Canister volume: 5.0 l.

Regards,

(Just in case anyone here thinks in gallon: Its a 47 gallon tank)

For any tank up to 200 liters(55g) I'd use the Eheim 2213, its a lower cost model and it'll do just fine for 200-250 liters (55g), anything larger I'd find not needed overkill unless you're planning on totally OVERSTOCKING your tank (which I'd not recommend for several reasons )

Def. Eheim. Any eheim filter rated for that many gallons or the next one up for more flow, next one down for less flow. Up/Down in relation to advertised recommendations in Gallons Per Hour. But get an Eheim, you can't go wrong there.
