Anyone ever heard any thing good or bad on these? This is the one with the 500 watt heater. I am planning on running it in a 210 gl aquarium. Other than the fact that it has a built in heater, I like the 2 inlet hoses (one for each side). I am trying not to have 2 many things hanging on the back wall of the tank, and do not want to play around with overflows.

Also, what filter media should I get? It has three large filter baskets.

They are very nice. The units generally come with all the media necessary until you get the very large units. Otherwise you need to be specific about the plans for the tank. Planted, fresh, marine, reef all have different needs so you may want to change or add something to the media upon your selection.

The tank will be planted, fresh/brackish. Not sure what other info needed.

A heavy brackish tank does not lend itself well to plants.

Not going that heavy. It will be just a little, if that even can be considered brackish. The current tank is fresh, with just pinch of salt. Going to be the same. Just wanted to throw that a little salt would be involved in case that changed anything. Right now the plants in my 75 are doing great.

I'd plan to run the standard rings, foam, spheres, floss set up that Eheim uses. If your unit does not come with media you can run small pieces of lava rock as media to save $$. It has tremendous amounts of surface area for bacteria. If this is a dedicated plant tank, say with laterite bed, CO2, fertilizers etc.. I would omit carbon from the filter as it may strip the fertilizers before the plants can use them.
