Eheim 2073 questions?

Has anyone got this canister?
Can anyone comment on it and what its like and so on.

I think i might get this for my mbuna setup, and want final opinions.

Thanks in advance.

I have it on my 75. I like it, it works just fine. It's actually not as quiet as the fluval 205 i have on my other tank but it's also got twice the capacity. I can't comment on its operation bc i have nothing to compare it to on that tank. You may want to double check that you can order extra parts for it bc i don't think they make this model anymore.

Stephanie's updated tank profiles:

I'm wondering Stephanie if your Eheim is having problems or air in the system, the reverse should be true, your Eheim should be quiter than your Fluval. Eheims are known for how quiet they are, the main reason many chose them over other brands.

As for spare parts, theirs not much to replace on the 2073 (I own one as well) and anything like gaskets are easily acquired from your local hobby shop or from the net. Eheims are known to be like the EverReady Bunny, they just keep going and going.

Here's a review of the Eheim 2073, you'll notice the comment on how quiet they are:

I'd recommend not getting that filter at all.. It's cheap plastic, and was made for the sucker. Go with a eheim 2217. There are only a few parts, and it's a beast of a filter. I have 4 of them and have had 2 of them for more then 4 years now. Only thing you have to do every 6 months or so is just do a full cleaning. of the unit. Twice a year. Unless you got alot of debris going into it, it could clog eventually and you might have to do a cleaning between the 6 months. There is some setup and they supply enough tubing for a 5 foot high tank. It makes no noise either.

Couple of draw backs though, you gotta make sure your output tube is always in the water :P I had one one time unstick from the glass and the output hose started to aim up as it was falling out of the tank, and I had 70 gallons of water in my front office at work. So I just made sure that Instead of putting the output hose horizontal now all my tanks have them vertical so that doesn't happen again.

I give the 2217 my stamp of approval on all levels of filtration.
