DIY Coffee Pot Beta Tank

Hello all! I have a friend that told me this weekend that she wants a beta. She also said she wants to use an old coffee pot as it's bowl. Seeing as how she is a huge coffee nut I thought of an even better idea. Does anyone think it is possible for me to gut an old coffee maker, and insert a small pump for a makeshift filter in the reservoir. After the water has passed threw the "filter" I would like it to pass threw another hose threw the coffee filter basket and trickle into the coffee pot. I would like the effect of a pot of coffee being brewed. I also like the idea of a few LEDs in the filter basket, and also a few red LEDs in the disabled heating element to give an effect of a hot plate. Im sure I can take care of LEDs by myself but can anyone else share advise on how I can get hold a small water pump? I don't see why this won't work, given I find a large enough carafe.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Kris

That does sound like an awesome idea! Just make sure you get a pot larger than 1 gallon. A neat decor idea would be to use a smaller, new coffee cup on the inside. A lot of people use them as a little betta cave. You could also get smooth, brown gravel to make it look like "coffee beans."

Few questions, tho: how do you plan to heat it? And how will the water be returned from the bowl to the reservoir?

I think I will have an air line I the carafe comin oufrom behind then into the coffee maker. Haven't thought of how to heat it yet. But I know the heating element on the coffee maker may be over kill huh? I think before I do much to it I aughta find a coffee maker at a thrift store first. I have read that Betas like a smaller aquarium but I think a 12 cup carafe may be to small.

Well betta don't exactly like a small container, but they do like a lot of cover. And ya. Twelve cups is a little on the small side. The smaller the tank, the more water changes will be needed.

The heating element will probably be overkill. You could look into a small adjustable heater like the the Hydor Theo. Maybe put it in the reservoir if it's large enough.

Water parameter's and temperature are too unstable for long term health of the fish in anything less than five gallon's per betta.
These are some of the most abused fish in the hobby, due in large part to those misguided folk's who attempt keeping these fish in small vases, bowl's,etc.
They are tropical fish that appreciate/need, a heated filtered tank ,just like any other tropical.
Forum's are littered with post's regarding sick betta's and all manner of remedies to effect a cure, when simple prevention is easily obtained by providing the fish with basic care that other fishes also demand.
Forums are also littered with fok's who sometimes have a long RIP list of fishes that were lost largely due to poor enviornment/ignorance.
I have a sister who has killed, replaced more of these fish than fishes I have lost in last ten year's.
She keep's them in bowl's ,and changes water when it suit's her.
The fish struggle with fluctuating temperatures and swim in their own feces until they can no more.
they don't get sick overnight,,they slowly(painfully slowly),,become sicker and sicker, and then she want's info from me as to what med can she use that will bring immediate relief.
My answer has not changed and neither has her bull headedness.
Poor fishies.

Man. . . any normal sized coffee pot would be way too small, I think - but it's really a brilliant idea. I WANT ONE!!! My betta is in a 3g tank, but I wouldn't go any smaller. Really cool thought, though I don't think I've ever seen a 3 gallon pot of coffee. (If I did, I'd drink it all down Mmmm!)
