Couple of lighting questions.

Hey all. Been thinking about my lighting cause a few of my plants are taking off like crazy (anacharis) and others I can see a little new growth (wisteria).

The way I figured my WPG ratio is a took into consideration my decor and substrate to be about 12-15% of my total volume of 16 gallons.

The current light I have in my tank is this:

Aquatic products

Which gives me about 1-1.2 WPG of lighting. I was looking around and saw this:

Aquatic products

My questions are, which one is better? which would you recomend, and whats the difference between the 2?

Thanks

Forget the watts per gallon relationship on a small tank like that. The WPG recommendations totally break down on small tanks. You have what would be best described as a low light tank. It is suitable for things like java fern, Anubias, java moss, Cryptocoryne or similar low light plants. If you choose to go with higher light, there would be a bigger selection of plants that you could grow but I find the low light plants can fill a tank very nicely.

Thanks guys, I just got back from a weekend trip, so havent had much time to look into low light plants, but now I wont need to much thanks to you guys.

I've been noticing more growth on the wisteria, slow but its there. And I'll swing by my LFS to see what they have for plants.

The best way to track growth is by taking pictures. For the longest time I thought my crypt wasn't growing until I looked at a picture from when I'd first planted it and realized it had doubled in size.
