Ok I was asked how in the heck do I cleaning my hoses on my Ehiem classic 2213.

ok so here is my Output hose and spray bar. I just took it off the Canister by the disconnects.

I separate every piece from there. Then I get a pipe brush or a hose cleaner that you can get a Petco or probably any Fish store.

Then I simply take the brush and run it through every piece.

Spray bar

The hard plastic tube. This is tube the spray bar connects to. Mine looks a lil different as I modified it.

Hoses, Once again they look different as I have used this filter on several different tanks and stand heights. So had to get different tubing to make up the height difference. I wasn't going to pay for the Ehiem's brand hoses when I could go down to Lowe's and get some cheaper and quicker.

Then I simply put it back together.

The intake is a lil bit harder for me but I do the same thing there.

The hose on that side is too long for me to put the brush in and get hold of it on the other side. So for me to get entire hose clean I have to tie a piece of string on the brush and pull it through. I don't usually do that as it doesn't get that dirty. So I just take the brush and put it in the hose from both ends. There is about an half inch I can't reach in the middle of the hose. So i just flush it out with water and it usually gets the big stuff of there if there is any.

After that I place all the hoses back on the tank and where they go. I connect the quick disconnects back. Then I prime it back. Now some canisters are self priming. This one yeah not so much. You have to prime back. The easiest way I do it is take the intake hose and fill it up with water by closing the disconnects. Then I put the hose back like it goes in the tank. Next I take the output off the tank (disconnecting right behind the spray bar.) and putting it into bucket lower then intake. Finally I open up the disconnects on the intake and it should start a siphon. Now if the canister is empty it will obviously fill up before it comes out the output. So it might take just a minute for you see it. Once I get flow, I shake the canister to get the air out of it then plug it up to make sure. If I don't then the darn thing will hum a tune. Sometimes the air will work itself out sometimes it won't. After that I will unplug it put my thumb on the hose and put it back where it goes. Then I will plug the canister back up and it should be good for awhile.

Measure your cleaning brush end to end. I have a trumpet cleaning brush that is just like yours but I suspect the your cleaning brush is shorter in length. My cleaning brush measures 42.5 inches end to end and the brush diameter appears to be about 3/4 inch. These cleaning brushes are available at any store that sells or services musical instruments. There is also available a trombone cleaning brush and I will have to make a trip to the store to see if that model is better for 5/8 inch id hose.

How often do you clean the hoses? I don't expect to touch them unless they are fouled enough to affect flow. I suspect maybe every year but I haven't had my tank long enough to know.

Well, i dont see the hoses without pulling them out specifically so i dont care what they look like, maybe that buys me much more time.

Good step by step though.

Mine are hidden too. LoL I can't stand to see them. If I could figure out how to hide the lines in the tank I would! I don't really care what they look like either as long as the water flow is still good. That's when I clean them usually. I just did it the other day cause my filter got clogged and stopped working. Turned out to be my pre filter and not the hoses but cleaned them anyways.

I didn't even realize you had to clean them. :0
