Dan, it appears as though your model has shut off valves at the hose connection to the unit top. My assumption would be that, to clean the media, you will need to apply the following steps:

disconnect power, or turn unit off
close both shutoff valves.
if disconnects are available, disconnect the hoses from the unit top
otherwise remove the unit top as a whole.
clean/replace media and container as desired.
refill the canister
replace the top or hoses, depending on the method applied.
open the shutoff valves.
the natural syphon should cause the water to fill the remaining area of the canister and force any air out of the outlet.
then restart your canister filter.

the filter may make a bit of noise as the remaining air is forced out of the system.

Awesome, thanks for the maintenance tip. I shouldn't have to take it apart for a while (30 days?) so if I need more help I'll be sure to post! :D

Oh yeah, almost forgot...for my 'out' I took off the L curve and put it straight down...will that present a problem? It is shooting water out just fine, but I forgot to ask earlier.

Well I still have 2 HOB's and 2 airstones, so that should agitate everything enough....thanks for the heads up on that though, I'll keep an eye out for it.

They have twist on/off caps. I usually prime my filter and then fill the intake hose with water.
how much are those?
