Buying used filter?

I found a great deal on local craigslist for a Ehiem Professional 2028, $100 or obo. Should I jump on it or not? Is buying a used canister ok? I'm also worried about the tubing not fitting? Could just buy some more and use it?

Unless I saw it, it was clean and in good working order and I could get it for a steal, I wouldn't buy a used filter - I'd rather pay more for a brand new one.

You know, it's not like there are dozens of moving parts to break. Hoses are easy and relatively cheap to fix. I bought most of my tanks used, and they came with filters - I haven't had any problems with them. I would go look at it and I would bring a 5 gallon bucket, so the filter can be tested before you buy it. If it works, offer $75.

Personal opinion is go for it, check it out and if you feel there is anything wrong with it, then dont buy it.

No harm in taking a look at it and who knows it could be a very good steal..will the flow rate be fine for your fish? It is quite a powerful filter and am not sure what size tank yo are planning on putting it on.

There are deals to be had for filters, I got an FX5 for a steal at $125 simply because the guy who sold it could no longer keep the 180g tank he had it on. He was moving and wanted to sell it quick. He posted the add on my local craiglist and within an hour and a half I owned it. :)

It says it is a salt water filter in the advert... is your tank SW or Fresh? Can it be used for either? Have you looked for reviews online for this product? Is there a local fish store that does repairs if you find it is missing something? sells parts?
I always buy new too. mine are both over 15 years old.

I don't know if there's any place that does that, but some said this model is also no longer made. I've never owned a canister, want are some of it's basic parts. although I did watch a video on youtube on how to put one together. Never mind, I found a site with a list of parts and I can order what's missing. http://parts.eheim.com/display_product.php?pid=2028

By and large, a canister is a canister. It's only a SW filter because it's been run on a SW tank. It will be a FW filter once it's set up on a FW tank.

That filter model has been discontinued, FYI.
