One of my tanks is a ten gallon that you get as a "starter-kit" from Wal-Mart. It came with an Aqua Tech HOB filter. The filter works fine; no complaints here at all. However, I did some research and found out that the Aqua Tech brand name is manufactured by Marineland and furthermore, that these filters are practically identical to their Penguin counterparts. My filter is the same (basically) as a Penguin 100.

The thing is, my filter doesn't have a Bio-Wheel. I'd like to have one for the additional filtration it would provide, and it would likely be cheaper to add a bio-wheel than to replace the entire filter.

Any idea if there's an easy way to do this? I assume I can't just buy Penguin 100 replacement wheels and stick it in there.

You want to add a biowheel to the Aquaview correct?

To be honest it will be a difficult undertaking to do it right so the biowheel turns properly. Nothing is impossible but it won't be easy. A couple pieces of thin plastic that you secure on the outlet to the filter with some small holes drilled very carefully so the filter turns freely could work. Securing the platic with some aquarium safe silicone would put it where it belong.

The best thing I can think of doing if you want more biological filtration is to replace the stringy looking stuff that came with it with BioChem stars or Ceramic rings. I have actually considered this to see if it works well enough to make the aquaview a useful filter compared to my Aqua Clear. Then if I could find a sponge to replce the filter cartridges I would be set and be able to have a good filter to a cheap price.
