Best filter for 20 gallon long aquarium

Do you have any recommendations to filter a 20 gallon long tank?

I just bought the Aquaclear 50 (20-50 gallon filter), but the motor rumble is kinda loud. I'm thinking about the Marineland 30 gallon filter instead. My Eclipse 3 gallon, also made by Marineland, makes almost no noise. Yeah it's only 3 gallons, so maybe my expectations are a little high as far as the quiet factor for my future 20L aquarium. This tank has to be in my bedroom, and as much as I'm loving this fish hobby, I still need decent sleep!

Any recommendations will be appreciated =)

I would take back the Aqua Clear. Mine run almost silently so I think there is something wrong with it. I think the 50 would be a perfect filter for the tank, maybe a little large but who cares, if you can get bigger than needed go for it.

u would go with a canister. i hav an eheim with almost no noise. u could set it up with the intake and outake on separate ends to set up almost a river aquarium, a slow river at that

Both are very good suggestions.

Get a filter rated for a larger tank than you have, its only going to improve the water conditions.

Personally I use an Eheim canister like mr.bojangles (BTW great name) its a great filter and it only cost like $60... Very quiet also...

thanks it was my nickname this summer on my survival course ... but the eheims amazing ... and if u need to add something to the filter to change water conditions u can just get an extra media bag and put it in ... i do it with peat for my rams

I have 2 x Fluval 3+ filters in my tanks and they're both very quiet and I love them. They keep the water really clean and have an anti-cloggin detector thing so if you leave it too long, you'll know about it.

They're also easy to clean/change, and have 3 different pads which means you only remove 1/3 of the media at a time leaving most of the good bacteria in place.
