Hi there,

I have a stand designed for a 29 gal tank. Dimensions of the top piece are 30" x 12". I'm getting a 33 gallon tank, 36" x 12" footprint, could I throw a piece of plywood or something on top of the tank with the dimensions of the new tank and use the stand for this tank instead?

Guess it really depends on the stand and how stable it is. Without looking at it in person, I really can't say if it'd be a good idea.

If you do, let it hang 3" off each side that way it is even and the weight is distributed. Be sure it's really stable because you're looking at about 270lbs not including the tank itself, substrate, etc falling over if it's not.

If it was me, I'd find a correct stand for it just to be safe.
