White stuff floating in tank

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Need some help in determining what this is floating in my tank. I have had my tank since July '09. I have 2 comet goldfish, 2 giant danios, and 2 African clawed frogs in a 30 gal tank. We just saw this big white "mass" floating around. It looked like a big cobweb, only definitely fish-related. I know my 2 frogs are males, and I am pretty sure my danios are also males. However, I am unsure of the goldfish. What would the white stuff be? I am guessing it's from a male goldfish, but idk. I couldn't find any good pics or videos online showing what it would look like. I tried taking pictures, but they kept coming out very dark or blurry, and the video was just as bad. Do fish sometimes do that when the water is a little warmer even without a female in the tank with them? I did just change the water a couple hours ago, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your help!

Well without a picture, I don't really know. Is the top of your water getting enough agitation? I've seen many of times specially in bowled tanks with betas where a film will develop on the top of the water if it is not agitated. Then say a fish or something moves the top of the water it can cause the film to clump up and resemble something unpleasing. I'd recommend doing more frequent water changes for now. If you aren't in the habit, try to get into the habit of doing a water change at least twice a week. Your fish will love it.

When ever you see something that doesn't look like freshwater.... WATERCHANGE! With good habits you should always see good water quality.

Agree with Zynthesis on the water changes and keeping a routine water change schedule. What types of food are you feeding? I've seen what I think is a protein film with certain foods that I have fed my tank with. However, it soon dissipates and doesn't look like a cobweb. Hum...

BTW- Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for your replies. No, this was floating *through* the tank, not sitting on the top of the water. It eventually got stuck in a weed. It definitely was not from food, because I hadn't fed them since that morning, and I'm home all day sitting next to the tank. It didn't show up until about an hour after I had changed their water. I do have a pretty regular routine for water changes and feeding.

Upon looking in the tank just now, we have EGGS on one of the weeds! WOAH!!! I am pretty sure they're eggs, because they were not there last night when I went to bed. They are everywhere, little brown dots. I am guessing these are the goldfish and not the danios. So help! What do I do so my frogs and fish don't eat the eggs or the babies???

You've got a few options.

1. Remove the eggs and put them in another tank or holding unit.
2. Remove the fish completely and just keep the eggs in the tank.
3. You can buy a divider and try to seperate the fish from the eggs.
4. You can just leave the fish in there and hope for the best.

Some of these options require another tank or getting rid of fish that you might want.
