Hi there. I have a very pregnant female guppy and I was wondering how I can tell when she is close to giving birth so I could put her in a breeding net. Thank you.

Kindest Regards,
Amanda

Did she square off yet? My guppy did and had babies before I knew it. The only thing I remember in hindsight is that she kind of seperated herself and stopped eating but by the time I realized she had babies she died a day or two after. I never got a chance to put her in a breeder's net and the fry are still in the tank.
Good Luck.

She has definaltly squared off. Would it be better to put her in a breeder thing that goes inside the tank or should I set up the 2.5 gal tank I have and put her in there with some java moss for the babys to hide in then take her out after she has them.

I just its a matter of choice and it depends on what other fish you have in the tank. Some people say the breeders box stresses them out. I left mine in the tank and there are 6-7 fry. If the other tank is already cycled than you can consider that. Do you plan on keeping the fry?

Mine are sooo cute, they are growing and starting to show some color on the tails after 2 weeks. I have plenty of hiding spaces in the tank so they are fine.

She has had babys before in the tank and they all got eaten:cry:. I put her in the other tank and with in a few hours she started haveing fry but they were all dead except for 4. One of them is a lot bigger than the rest of them and has some color but the other 3 are itty bitty and clear they look totally different. Any idea what went wrong and why they are so different?

Kindest Regards,
Amanda

Thank you for all you help. I have posted pics in my profile if you would like to take a look of my tanks. The one in the bedroom looks cloudy but its not I just could not get the lighting right. The one at the office will have plants today or tomorrow I bought them on ebay and should be here soon.

Kindest Regards,
Amanda

Thank you I really enjoy my tanks. I credit it all to my big brother who gave me my first tank for my 10th birthday. I have had tanks every since them. I am saveing up to get around a 50 gallon tank so I can have even more fish. LOL ;-)

I would just leave alot of floating and plants at all levels for the babies to hide.Stack rocks or make a cave area for them to hide. When your guppy is done having them take her out of the tank. That's a good idea to have her in a 2.5 gal. tank to have the babies. I just kept an eye on mine through out the day and when I noticed that she was skinny again I took her out and put her in my main tank. I kept the babies in a 2.5 gal til they got bigger and not fit in the guppies mouth. feed crushed flake food.

Here is a good web site I saved under my favorites:
Guppy Information

On the left hand side they have a section about pregnate guppies. The story on how she got started is sort of funny. Good luck with the babies!

Anymore babies? My Tiger/hybrid endler just had some more babies yesterday in my big tank. I had (51) from 2 females. 1 female died after giving birth the next day. i shipped(28)babies to the guy I bought my Tigers from on E-bay with a pair of adults. He lost all his Tigers he breeds from a guppy he got from Thailand. He was contacting people that bought his stock to buy or trade. I felt bad for him so I sent him the babies. I don't have the tank space to raise that many babies. They were going to San Francisco. I will be getting his fish today priority mail he shipped on the Sept. 8th. I get(8) German Snake Skin Red Lace Guppy fry. I can't wait to get them today. I have never shipped fish but used his styrofoam box to ship them and he sent me breather bags. I hope he gets them in good shape. I put some floating plants in my 55 gal. tank just in case some more baby fry turn up. I'm sure my bigger fish 6" Angelfish had a nice snack. I have about (27) to raise in my 5 gal. tank. all the females have their own 5 gal. tank and the males are in a 6 gal. The German snake skin fry will go in a 5 gal. tank and when they get bigger into my 55 gal. tank. The excess babies that did not color up to what I wanted will go on Craigslist to rehome. I'm only keeping a few females and mostly males that have a certain color combination for my breeder stock. If I see anymore babies in my 55 gal. they now have a place to hide in the floating plants. I can't save anymore til the ones I have get bigger and I rehome the ones I don't want. It is fun raising them and watching them color up at 6wks-9wks.

What are German Snake Skin? They sound interesting. These little guys are very fast and hard to see. LOL Maybe when they get a little bigger I can get a better count. Do you think it would be ok to put a Mystery Snail in there with them to take car of any food the little guys don't eat? Congrats on your babys by the way.

Wow I looked up the German Snake Skin Guppy that is one pretty guppy no wonder you are excited.

I went to my mailbox at around noon and my German Snake Skin red lace guppies are here. You can google a picture of them. Some of the babies have a red color showing up on the tail. All are alive and well . It took 3 days to get them.I hope that my box of 28 baby tiger endlers and 2 adult pair show up fine without any problems. Shipping fish make me nervious.

The guy that I got them from told me if I breed the German Snake Skin Red Lace Guppy females with one of my Red Tiger/Hybrid endler I will get a deeper red coloring in the males. I just might do that. My friend has a bunch of the babies from my Tiger/endlers. I have the Yellow Tigers as in the picture below:

My friend has the Tigers with the Red tails. But some of my babies will come out Yellow or Red since they have both the genes for the coloring.
