Very overwhelmed, trying to breed cichlids. Help?
So, I have a 75 gallon tank with cichlid and an empty and running 15 gallon. But thats about as far as I get before I am blasted with a lot of info. So, if anyone would like to become my online mentor I would love the help.

there are lots of people here who would love to help you. ask questions, provide details, and people will tell you what will or won't work.
**I freely admit that most of the information I share I have learned from other people on this forum and am simply repeating. I thank you for sharing your knowledge and ask that if I say anything incorrect someone will kindly correct me**
From looking at the information on the profile for jewel cichlid, you are best buying a group of them and allowing them to form a pair on their own from the group. I would suggest getting a group of 6 o 7. Once a pair forms you can sell the others. The profile for these fish have a few suggestions for breeding. You can view the profile by either clicking on the shaded name. You can also find the link for the profiles at the top of the page, second tab from the left. Good luck.
I would leave the pair in the large tank, from the profile they need to have at least a 48" tank. You can remove the fry and place them in the 15 gallon. I would wait on moving them until after they reach the free swimming stage. You will probably need to have another tank for growing them out in, the 15 gallon should work for awhile.
Yes ideally if you have good quality fish, you can sell them to pet stores in your area, cragslist, ebay or aqua bid. Before you decide to breed though I would make sure you have a plan for selling the fish, some pets stores won't buy from individuals. You will also need a bigger grow out tank than a 15g. Once they are born they can go into the 15g then probably say a 30g breeder tank. It take a good bit of time if you are going to grow up the fish to breed then once they start breeding your looking at about 3 months before you can start selling the fish. Do you just want to do this for fun or are you trying to make money? I really enjoy breeding fish but it takes a lot of time, effort and money.
