Thinking about breeding Dwarf puffers?

Just curious as to what you guys think?.

Is there a market for them?, I am not looking to earn a billion dallars at it, but it would be nice to at least cover the cost of breeding them?. If I had some right now, would anyone want them? I havn't invested anything yet, I still havn't found my breeding set yet, my LFS hasn't recieved the one's they
ordered. :(

I just want to say good luck with the breeding. I had a male and female DP for over two years. They never breed for me.

I doubt you'll get them to pay for themselves. There's just not all that much market - too specialized.
If you want to go ahead anyway, I think it was Mike Helleweg had an article in TFH in 08 on it. The bottom line: Fresh water (not brackish) a little hard, neutral or just above. Plenty of cover in any tank with multiple males (He used crypts), and java Moss for the females to lay their eggs in. Introduce the moss after you've conditioned them for a while so they'll be ready to spawn once you give them the thing they need.

heres a l,ink of someone who has bred them infact several times.
Dwarf Puffers : Home
and his own site
http://www.dwarfpuffers.com/rensaquarium.htm
where he tells you how he has done it and how succesful and what the problems were, etc.
better to learn from someone who has done it over and over right??
(i havent myself either, i havent even gotten my DP's yet either) but i went ahead and got the java moss in case anyway. (and the other poster might be right about the ability to sell them. it is a small market i guess. but anything that is "new" always takes a bit to catch on with more people. so hey why not, give it a shot, and i bet your LFS's might even be happy to buy some off you here and there!
good luck!!!

(by the way the site will have gramatical errors, i believe the guy is japanesses and repeatedly appologises for any errors as he was translating it all by himself.) just so you're prepared so that you'll understand what he is saying. its the most information i've found about breeding them.
