So, I got a pool set up in my basement where I hope to raise my fish once it's cycled. It took forever to fill up, it's about five feet around and maybe a foot, give or take a few inches, deep. Added plants and established media to the filters, which are cool, so it'll hopefully cycle a bit faster. No fishies until then though. I couldn't get the screen out of the window so I had to fill it by hand with a gallon pitcher. My back and hips are absolutely killing me and I'm not done yet(though I'll probably only add another inch of water, currently debating on it...I may need a screen JUST in case of jumpers...).

Got my airstones, plants, filters, heater(I may need another, but it stays pretty stable down there so I was hoping one would be enough to keep it there, we'll see), sinking thermometer and no stickers, and a broken back. LOL For just being put up, it's not bad, eh? It'll be perfect, and is indoor so easier to care for. I will turn down the fountains on the filters a bit later, for now it'll keep the water moving and even everything out, but later it'll be lower for the crystalwort I have in there, I hope it'll make a nice mat, I'd also like some water lettuce and maybe some water sprite too. Be my little pond in the basement. If it doesn't work out I could always get a pair of fancy goldfish. xD

The light I'm using is temporary, well..I may use those but more than one and I need to find some plant lights and find something else to hang them on. =)

Pool tank is either going or not. My ammonia is gone, had some ammonia and nitrates, no nitrites, it's gone now and stayed gone. We'll see...

So, Miss Clockwork is about to blow, again, she is ginormous, I think she gets bigger every time. x.x

Oh hey, remember when ma was going on about that white fantail goldfish? Well she brought me two she named Tweedledee and Tweedledum(I named them Comet and Majik). Orandas and not fantails...She goes "Well you have a pool don't you?!" T____T Yeah, for my babies, they wont be going in there! I'll see about finding them new homes, they're in my crayfish tank now...I admit, they're darn cute, but I haven't the space for them, not at all. They usually get about eight inches, but some can get ten or more and I don't have that kind of space even with the pool. lol She's nuts. I wish she woulda asked, I told her to take them back, but no. She wants me to divide the pool, and I don't think that's going to work. They can handle warmer water, from what I read, but space is another issues. I mean can you see two ten inch, fat goldfish in forty gallons? I don't think that's gonna fly.

Hopefully I can find someone with a big tank for them later on, for now they're alright(about two inches long, chubby little cuties, she may win me yet since I do so love them...one didn't look too great, he's better now, she went out and did this the day after I got my pool thinking I could just dump them in, didn't happen, it's not even cycled, or wasn't). I've got too much to do to plan all this stuff too. X_X I told her if I was going to get goldfish, I'd have a much larger tank, or she can get me a second pool...and that if I was going to pick, I'd take the real gold ones with black, and calicos. She got a red and silver(more silver than red, got a red cap and stripe down the back) and an orange and silver(more orange than silver). They are cute, but I don't think she'll win me over, I think it's just going to be REALLY hard to give them up since I do in fact love goldfish. T_T

They should be ok until summer, yeah? They're pretty small, bit of extra water changes and they should be good. I have enough to do until then.

Miss Clockwork popped again sometime either this morning or last night. Got more than usual, but I can't count them since there are so many plants. I know there are more because I could see more. lol Cute little babies, couple came out pitch black with a bit of gold on the mouth, like they have gold faces instead of being half and half like some gold dusts are. Pretty things, few look black and white, few calicos. Last batch I got some like mom, which I am happy about(although they have more black markings than her one black splot on her tail). I love that fish. :3

Unfortunately mom isn't doing too well again. I had the males separated from the main female branch there, but it doesn't do much since she seems to have stores of sperm she's using herself. I wish she wouldn't. After a year of popping monthly(she did skip two or three months last year but popped about monthly for half a year before that), it seems to be taking a toll on her. The last three times she's given birth, it's taken her several days to recover, she just mopes on the bottom. =( She eats though, I aim food in her direction and she'll get active for that, which is good. I'd be more worried otherwise. She had a huge batch this time, so hopefully she will take a break. I'd be happy if she just lived out the rest of her days without anymore kids, I rather like her and she's...what, three years old or close now? Yeah, she needs a break or she's gonna cut her life short if she hasn't. You'd think they would consider how bad it makes them feel and not do it so often.

These are the two goldfish my grandma brought me. The male(the one that is more orange than silver, I don't really know their gender, but he's got a bigger head poof thing than the other does which is barely there...I have NO idea if it actually means anything) is no longer acting ill or showing any signs of stress. They really are sweet little fish(who will get too big for that tank! ><), always come nom when I put food in and investigate me. This photo was taken the day we got them, the male pepped up a bit, but he had trouble flaoting right and kept laying on the bottom, I thought swimbladder, but then he swam normal to come eat and by the next day was normal. Gave them peas anyways, they were a bit stopped up and very stressed from the move.

Pics of the twenty, and the new goldies, they typically stay on that half of the tank(which is the side I feed them on and they know it), but they do occasionally go eat some java moss, which is dwindling a lot...These photos were just taken a few minutes ago, so new. Yes, baby blue is still in there and wanting his tank back to himself. He's been hiding in the cave because he recently shed again. =) I'm doing a bit of extra cleaning in there because of the goldfish and added an airstone too. Ah, goldfish, they do nothing but be cute, eat and poop. x.x

Pics of the 55 gallon, also just taken. Nothing but plants in the net now, babies all in the pool or nursery. It looks a little less crowded now, but it's still crowded. I'm almost ready to open up shop, got my boxes and stuff, fish are all healthy, just need to figure out how to make an account on amazon, I'm a little confused...Anywho, new photos. Check out some of those plants!

And my ten gallon, photos also just taken a few minutes ago. Look how well it's doing. It's still got a bit of an algae bloom, but it's clearing up. Sorry for the water drips, I've gotten really bad about wiping it down. x.x After cleaning 4-5 tanks, I get a little tired, which is why I'm gonna start splitting cleaning days. LOL You can see my newborn mollies in there, may even spot a shrimp.

You can also see a few of my lovely pink ramshorn snails, also a few of the red ones with gold leopard spots. Might be a few golds in there, they need to skeedaddle to the other tank! And by the way, that net has a couple new baby guppies i'll let out soon. Five of them, and one unknown. It also has my mama shrimp who had eggs, she doesn't anymore, hence the moss ball and java moss and stuff in there. :3 I can't see any, doens't mean there aren't any babies...I hope there are, I put spirulina(SP?) in there for them.

o-o I'm so happy my fish pool is working out, not only did I get in a new bacth of mollies the other day, but as we speak one of my swordtails is giving birth again. I believe it's the same white and orange female, but i'm not sure. I couldn't tell and one of my red calicos that I raised(and have been hoping they would and did breed with Big Red before he passed away) was acting laborey and swimming up and down the glass in one area and holding still. Also chubby. My white female has her vent open and is also acting laborey though, so I have NO idea! I have them both in the big planted net and have found babies in there since. x.x I caught a few in the main tank, bright little things. They're all kinda orange-y or reddish, some have black marks on their tail(which could again be from either parent, though I noticed none on my previous white swordtail babies). I think I caught six or seven and added them to the nursery. I only saw them because they're so bright.

That time of year again. LOL Well, two years ago the end of the year was it, but the last two it's been all spring and summer. =)

It's official, mom was my white swordtail again. =) I was really hoping that the red calico would pop. She's pregnant, guess I just moved her prematurely and she held. Oops. x.x I released her. The male swordtail I have actually shows interest in the girls, so I may finally get some kids from those red calicos I raised. They're old enough, more than(they were old enough six months ago, but Big Red only showed moderate interest in the solar flare female and not really much at all in the other girls). Of course...he also likes my female gold gourami. x.x She doesn't seem to mind...

Well, mama went pretty slow, I thought she was done soon after my last post though she was still huge like she was last time. Turned on her lights today and she was muuuch thinner, and oh so many babies. o-o; Wow, there are a lot of babies. They look different than the first ones. Same color for the most part: Orange. But some came out more white, and most came out with black tails or black markings. They should be beautiful little babies. :3 There are more of them this time than she first gave birth to though, I may have to skitter a net down stairs to the fish pool, even my homemade net isn't big enough for them to be in very long.

They'll probably be staying in the net for now, or at least many will. My ten gal nursery is already full with a couple of her babies and a ton of baby mollies and guppies. I'm waiting until they're a tad larger and stronger so I can put them in the fish pool, which by the way is doing lovely. Staying stable, the fish are growing very fast in there and just enjoying life, they've discovered where I feed them and instead of fleeing where I stand, they come to see me and eat.

Here's a scoop of the new baby swordtails. Maybe half of them or so. lol Turns out I was wrong, my red calico DID give birth to about 6-8 babies, the rest were my white swordtails. The red calicos came out more red with black spots on the tail, all the white swordtail babies(well, mom is white and orange with a black stripe and mickey mouse on her tail), came out either orange or white. :3 I took a photo when I moved them from the nursery net(my homemade one...some of them anyways) to the nursery tank I just emptied. lol

Remember the female Dalmation molly female I got with Comet, my gorgeous male with the blue tail? Got them 9-19-2012, they were full grown and likely 1-2 years old already. Comet died when my filter malfunctioned, but the female lived on.

Unfortunately she is not looking good today. I have no idea what's up, but she's not getting up. She's alive, she just wont move for anything and is laying half side-ways. Did a water test and got no ammonia or nitrite, nitrates are 5ppm. She was perfectly normal yesterday, no swelling, no odd scales, no acting odd, swimming normal and coming up for food. Could this have happened when I removed all the babies(there were near a hundred babies I took out, those swordtails and some newborn mollies, a platy and guppy, they were only there a few days), and about two dozen of the juveniles who had been there for a long time. I did not do a water change when I did, usually I do when I add or remove large amounts of fish, do you think that could have caused her problem? Nobody else is having issues, but neither was she until this morning, and stats are normal, though I didn't check PH to see if any spikes had occurred there. o-o; Typically that just makes them itch if PH changes though.

I am hopeful she's just old. She's between three and four at the minimum. I have pretty good luck with my mollies living four or more years, but as you know it's impossible to tell age when you buy them as adults, for all you know they could be old! Or they could be a year or so...at her size, I'd say at least a year or two, they take a while to get to her size, they slow after they hit an inch-inch and a half and grow REALLY slowly for the next few months, usually hitting that inch mark at 6-8 months or so. Well, she had a good life. Wish I had saved some of her kids. I had one from her, but an adult randomly decided to bully him and he got snagged in the filter and killed by the other fish after he'd been with them for...few weeks, a month or two, I can't recall. The rest of her broods(she had bred with Comet, so I REALLY wanted those babies) were unfortunately eaten before I got there.

Well, on a better note, if you can call it that...one of my guppies gave birth today. Knew she was gonna, da could be either of my red/blonde tuxedos or could well be my red and blue endlers mix(I hope), or may even be from my green cobra, guess we'll find out, it's her first brood and she's been with several boys. Including my yellow jacket tiger endlers(who, by the way, have bred with her sisters and the babies came out absolutely GORGEOUS, like tiger/cobra crosses, they're very pretty and I actually like them more than the tiger endlers...same colors, but they have a black bar and a tinge of green to their yellow, and instead of stripes they have a mix of those and ziggy spots)...we'll see. They're pretty big babies though, wow. Just born last night. Now HER I was expecting from...We got a surprise today though, my calico platy gave birth. I did not want to breed her yet, but a couple males matured early, could be a blue or red male, or the spotted blue male. No idea. My grandma saw her giving birth and called me over, got five babies from her, the sixth known baby was eated. T_T Grandma saw it and goes "Ah, no get it, JAMIE IT ATE THE BABY! I HATE FISH!" She says, she says every time something like that happens and then buys me more fish...I used to be that way, but I figured out the hard way, many times, that you just can't save them all even if you're RIGHT there trying. ^^; Still hurts me, but doesn't make me real upset anymore.
The babies are cute, two came out a pale gold, maybe white(those will very likely be more like mom, I'm hoping they bred with my red platy so the colors stay more like normal calicos over going to the blue with spots...which I don't find that attractive anymore LOL), likely will look like their gorgeous mom, two came out a darker color, likely blue, and one came out in between dark and light, sorta grey, also likely a blue and will probably have spots. Meh, I had plans for her so I was hoping that wouldn't happen. She's been separated from them for several weeks since I noticed there were boys in there. I had planned to get a nice calico male, I love those platies. But now I will have to wait and make sure she didn't store any sperm, hopefully not. She's done well though, she's not acting tired, she's going for food and hanging with the other girls.

By the way, that calico platy wasn't inbred, in case anyone was wondering. Her mother died soon after giving birth to her. The other female with her did the same after giving birth, but I saved no babies. =( Complications, meh. The male platies I had with her were unrelated, a blue and a red from different parents, and a blue and red mix which is likely da if not one of my spotted ones. The spotted blue platies aren't ugly...I'm just not so sure I like them that much. LOL They look like normal blue platies COVERED in black specks(as if they were sprinkled with a looot of black pepper), likely calico crosses with an unrelated male calico(little Flare, loved that fish!).
