Yeah those eggs wouldn't have standed a chance, esp with the other fish you have in the tank. Good idea with the route you took.
My breeding pair lay eggs every 10-14 days now...it's driving me bonkers lol. They aren't in a seperate tank on their own, as I artificially raise the fry myself. I've found unless you have them seperate and in their own tank, ANY stressors will most likely result in them eating the fry/eggs..aka other fish swimming around constantly. That's just my experience, some may have great success with other fish in the same tank.
I've had great success with the artificial method though, but since you don't want to start a collection of tanks..haha
