If you think your fish is getting close to giving birth, put her into the tank with the marbles on the bottom and the floating plants. She can live there in comfort for days on end if you have guessed wrong about her due date. With decent preparations and some close attention, you can easily get 40 or more swordtail fry from a single drop. The fry will either go to the top or the bottom of the tank. With a layer of marbles n the bottom, mom won't be able to follow the fry there and with floating plants she won't find many there either. As soon as she is done dropping the fry, it is best to put her back into the main tank again.

Your mama is going to be haveing more in a month or 2 be sure of it. so i would that before she dose. Then you can fish the fry out later and put them into the breeder net and be able to save some. I ended up have164 fry mollies out of 6 females. I just pulled them out of my 55 today. They were hiding in the plants at the bottom of the tank. So it dose help. After 2 or 3 weeks they will be big enough to put back in the tank. Unless u have fish with big mouths like i do. lol I sale my fry to the lfs. Get $2 each. Good luck and hope that will help!!!!!!!!!

I usually leave my females alone in the tank. they get stressed when Ive put them in the breeding nets. I think some babies might be saved. if there are plenty of hiding places. but its up to you. we all have different methods.
