Selling fish

Some of my platies recently have had a lot of babies. I was wondering if chain pet stores such as: Petsmart, Big Als, or Pet Cetera will buy my platies, once they are, or just about full grown. If not, would a privatly owned store buy them. How much would I get for each? Thanks

Yeah your local fish store should buy them for maybe like 10 cents each unless you raise them and than it may be more.

maybe you could sell it to other people directly instead of the LFS.
Sell it less than the LFS price. I've got more customers than fish now. hehe...

Honestly, I doubt you'd get much at all, if anything, for livebearers by selling them to a store. Most stores will likely take them off of your hands for you but won't give you anything for them. You might have more luck selling them on craigslist or even a big lot of them on aquabid. Don't expect to be rolling in cash from livebearers, though.

What do you mean by raising them?

My store wouldn't give you a penny for them. It's too much of a risk to take in fish that may make an entire tank sick for it to be worth any money. Your best bet it to sell/give them away on craigslist or bring them to your local aquarium society auction.

Selling Fish

I was recently told that there is now a law that if a pet store is incorporated in can not purchase fish from an individual breeder. I was told this by three different stores. I am in Ohio so it may be different elsewhere.
