Red Platy Fry

Here's a pic of the babies. Some are almost 1 month old, some are a bit less. These came from 3 different mommy's.

I just found 2 more red platy's in my community tank that are pregnant, this time they will have to give birth in the community tanks as i have way too many babies and no one to give them to. My LFS will not take them.

Bless your heart, we had this happen too! It is easy to tell the difference between a male and female platy. Unless you do something about this, it will not stop and just get worse, trust me. What we did is ran an ad in our local online Craigslist and sold some but mostly gave away all of our females. The females were all getting chased like crazy anyway and we had a lot more females than we did males. As soon as you can tell the difference in the sex (or sometimes right before then) they are capable of breeding so what them closely. Either way, I would re-home either all of the females or all of the males as soon as you can tell what they are.

This is how you tell the difference between male and female

Thanks,

I wish I could re-home some of the adults and babies, but alas I don't know anyone who has tanks and my local Los won't take any of them.

My last resort is Craigslist and Freecylces.

Wow, well you might need to set up another tank to keep your boys away from the girls :)
