Pregnant Platy Help?

Questions before I start:

-Where do Platy's Gravid Spot form?
-How many babies can a platy have?
-Gestation?

To me, my platy is getting bigger and bigger. When I look at her from below, her belly is always darker than the rest of her body. She eats a lot too, so I don't know if the "dark spot" is just food or what. I will try to get some full-body pics of her soon. I have some pics of her head and belly, so if anyone wants to see those, I will upload them.

Thanks in advance.

Where is this 'darkness' . if it is closer to the tail it is pregnant. it can five birth to up to 30 babies unless this is it's first birth. i would advise you to get a breeding tank so that when the mother has the babies, she won't eat them.

I have a net breeder, just in case.

Here are some pics I managed to get.

Hope that helps somehow.

it may be harder to see her grvid spot (well from the photo anyway) as she is a darker colour, my platy's pregnancy took about a month but it depends on the fish, and the size of her litter. but she will have a few litters for a few months even if there is no male present (but it looks as if you have one male)

oh yea she may take longer if the conditions are not right or if it is to hot or cold

The gravid spot will be right above and slightly in front of the anal fin, not the tail. The back of her abdomen will start to look very squarish and angular even if her color is too dark to see the darkening.

I know that.

Is the gravid spot on a side of the fish, or on its underside? Because the female has some sort of dark spot in front of her anal fin, but it is not directly on the underside.

Her gravid spot (or just a spot) is located on her left side, and it is slightly above and in front of the anal fin.

So, would she be pregnant?

Ok, some news.

My platy has not given birth yet, but I can definatley tell that the spot I orgianlly thought was her gravid spot is definatley getting bigger. She is getting bigger as well.

I can now see the gravid spot from both sides. It is where people said it would be - Slighty in front and above the Anal fin.

I can also make out 2-4 little black dots on her underside, which I take are fry eyes.

I think I will need to put her in the breeder soon.
