Welcome to the state of Confusion....where I apparently reside, with regards to breeding gups. Glad to have ya! LOL Ok. 10 gal nursery tank. 3 females that gave birth on the same friggin' night, all in seperate very roomy breeder traps. One female dropped 50 fry by herself ( can't have been her first drop ) and another 50 between the 2 others. All was well, despite the skies opening up and being blasted by tornadoes, bow echos, rain and wind.
Until. I decided 2 days later than I should do my wkly 25 % water change. Still, I painstakingly added the right amount of de-chlor and made sure the temp matched that which was in the tank, added it sslowlyy ( I got muscle cramps from it being so slow ) to the tank.
The next day, all the fry were dead, and all three females who were recuperating had a raging case of tail/fin rot. So...I thought I was doing the right thing, i dosed the tank after removing the fry, with Fungal meds ( still the right amount 0 and lost 2 of the 3 females. The other survived and i moved her a week later, back the the 'main' tank, a 20 gal.
She's thriving, due in a few weeks as well. The 'main' tank also had another couple of females that weren't due until this week. So I did a 100% WC and cleaned the filter, added a new cartridge, let it run for a wekk, tested the parameters and found them to be okay, and here we are.
I just hope all goes well this time.
