Name that fry! I'm so confused (pictures)

So a couple days ago we found several fry in the tank and assumed they are glowlight tetra fry. We managed to catch two and put them in the baby net.

Two happy baby fry

This is in our 28-gallon that has--
four glowlight tetras (of course)
ten juvie mollies
1 frog (the other croaked today)
2 glo danios
2 male guppies
1 female swordtail
1 pleco
some ghost shrimp

Our ten-gallon tank is for the naughty fish and has a male mollie and the CAE in it and some more ghost shrimp. Today we noticed more babies in this tank! They are much darker than the ones in the 28-gallon. They do not look like ghost shrimp; they look like fish! I caught one and put it in the baby net with the others--

The dark one on the left

On the right

What are these???

If you've bought any live plants recently, there's a chance the fry could have hitchhiked their way into your tank...

We did buy some live plants about a month ago. My husband is hunting down the others right now and they look suspiciously like Gustavo, the "male" mollie. Gustavo and the CAE have been in the tank about three weeks by themselves now and we've had Gustavo/Gustavina for seven weeks now.

We saw one become lunch for Gustavo but there are about 16 survivors.

I can tell you that they aren't danios. When those are born they look like TEENSY exclamation point.

This is the song that never ends...

Well we caught 17 of them and there are at least five more in the ten-gallon that we haven't been able to catch.

I can't remember my molly fry being so little at one time but I think they are.

Intermingled with the two tetras.

Upon closer inspection, I do think they look like dalmation mollies. I guess time will tell.

Thanks everyone! :D

Mollies, swords or guppies, just have to wait and see which ones.

Are you certain that the "male" sword is a male? I know that most times you can tell by the sword they get but sometimes you can't. Checking the anal fin is the best way. Even then though it can be hard as I have had ones look like females and turn out to be males 6-8 months later. And no, I don't think they simply changed sexes, I think they are just late bloomers. Now the ones I thought were male and turned out to be females, have to scratch my head and wonder about them.

I agree with Fish_4_all that they're one of the 3 he mentioned, but that you'll have to wait and see. At least you discovered them and saved some before they all became snacks! Good job. Have fun watching them grow and posting us on their progress!

Your memory is right Meredith. The fry from mollies do tend to be quite a bit larger than sword or guppy fry but none of them start out much over 1/4 inch in length. The guppies and swords will be even less.

Thanks everyone!

I most definitely have 30 dalmation molly fry, so Gustavo is really Gustava. They are now huge and are bullying the two little tetra babies in the baby tank. I found a home for half of them so I guess I'll keep the others!

(Anyone in Tucson want some...???)
