I have seven fry. My best guess is Platy. Two are orange and have telltale markings. Five are shaped the same, are similar to my blue platy BUT... they have black stripes. I don't have any platy with tiger stripes and don't know that I've seen any. Your ideas? Also worth mentioning, I cannot identify which fish had them. None appeared gravid around the time these were found. I have platy, molly, guppy and emerald catfish in the tank.

maybe two weeks. I'm feeding crushed bloodworms, powdered flake food and crushed pellets...five times a day.

Definitely looks like a platy to me. Though, I always second guess myself, but pretty sure that is a platy fry. I had/have a weird looking platy fry that is like white with redish stripes and black fins and I have no clue were it came from. Your fish may have been pregnant from the story or had some kind of recessive gene? Idk.

Mystery Fry Revamp....

I have been collecting random fry from my big tank for a number of weeks including fry directly from one of my guppies. I've established there are four different age groups. What is new and complicating is this. My big juvi fry with the tiger stripes that I've been calling Tiger Platy / Samuari Platy.... Well the guppy fry also have stripes. And I stumbled ont a pile of nearly greenish black fry... with stripes. My juvi's are big enough to tell, THEY ARE PLATY... but why do ALL my fry, including the ones I saw come out of a guppy, all have these stripes? I'm baffled.

I'm honestly not sure. It can be in the genes of the parents and not be visible on them but passed down to the fry. Or they mated at the store with a platy with strips. Not sure about the guppies though I've never seen a striped guppy.

Also, are both those pictures the same fry? If so, how did you get them to grow so quickly??

The first picture is over a month ago, the second is about two weeks ago. The second is mystery fry side by side with one of the alleged moms. The similarities are undeniable but like I said, the guppy fry have them also. Its weird.

So both the pictures are the same fry?

How'd you get it to grow that quickly in 2 weeks? =O

Anyways, my blue hi fin platy has one tiny-ish strip on it's side and I bought it at the store....

Anyways, the strips look cool! :D
