i have a 46 gallon tank with 3 female and 1 male swordtail, 2 red flame gouramis, 3 cories, 1 pleco and 2 angelfish.the fry have rocks to hide under and the plants dont have things for them to hide in. my neon fish is doin just fine. she is eating and everything. but still no other fry i wonder if mine are still alive. The craziest thing just happened my other pregnant swordtal just disappeared. what the heck happened? i woke up this morning and she was missing. i have no places for her size fish to hide and i cant find her. i wonder if shes giving birth somewhere. i put food in and she always comes to eat but not today i dont know where she is.

hi biokid101....in another thread you asked how the new fry are doing....i wasn't on over the weekend but the fry from last week are thriving, mom's doing phenomenal, and we've got three more dropped since then. Still waiting for the albino blue moms to start dropping theirs but so far so good. Last night moved a few of the larger fry from nursery tank to grow out tank....just 3 to "test the waters".......they survived the night, ate this morning so the bioload and water conditions in that tank must be right, going to move the rest of the larger fry into that growout tank tonight probably....

aquariangel. nice to hear about the fry. i wish i had money. i want to buy java moss for my tank so some fry can survive. it would be nice to see some new fish grow up and have their fry=). good luck with ur fry.my parents wont let me put java moss in the tank i dont know why. cya

Thanks...as soon as I've got some good pics I'll post them. Right now the fry are in unlit to low lit tanks (we're running out of lights LOL) so photographing them isn't easy.

If you lived nearby I'd pay you to mow our lawn :-D in order to "feed" your aquarium appetite LOL.

Your folks probably won't let you put the java moss in because it grows unbelievably crazy. It sits on the bottom without weight, has no roots and can overtake a tank very quickly with the right lighting and without pulling some out from time to time.

Dead ones yes. In the wild, Corydoras eat worms, insects, larvae, dead fish, plant material and other food stuffs that they manage to find while searching the bottom. So if dead fish are laying on the bottom of the tank they will make a meal of the corpse. If there's several corys, they'll make short work of the small body of a gup.....

LOL thx aquariangel yea my parents dont care about the fish as much as i do. they say im obsessed with them but its just a hobby im just starting to like and its interesting. java moss sounds like a good idea cause i can trim them monthly or weekly whatever it takes to make my fry survive. i have this little journal thing i can use to record the growth and stuff. i may sound like a freak but i want to become a zoologist or something involving animals when i grow up to study their life and redproduction.for some reason my parents dont respect that. im not aloud to feed the fish and my stepdad didnt even feed them twice today and its 7:30pm and he fed them at around 9:00am

LOL, no, you don't sound like a freak , we have post-its hanging on the tanks with all the parameters every time he tests, at least once a month. That way he can tell if there's been any major changes. It's a good idea and makes a better keeper.

It's really a shame that your parents don't support your interest considering it's a very respectable field to get into.If you get the chance go to the Galápagos Islands. A lot of schools do trips there, but you have to earn/work your way into the program. If your parents don't let you feed the fish suggest an auto feeder that way they don't always have to remember and you know the fish are getting fed on a regular schedule. IDK, might be a comprimise they'd consider.

i just saw a fry that was about a half an inch long.its been 22 days since she last gave birth but the angelfish is a beast it ate the whole thing right infront of my eyes. but she is due any day now and i might get a breeders net.
