my brothers male betta has been with us for about a month. a couple of days ago we upgraded his place into a little plastic bowl about half a gallon and he built a bubble nest today. i want to get a female for him but not in the same bowl im gonna get her one. and the babies another. is this a good idea? i dont have enough money to buy a 2 gallon tank im only 14.
I usually recommend a 2 gallon or larger for bettas but I have some of mine in 1.5 gallon critter keepres. Also, if you plan on breeding, please do your research first. A lot of preparation goes into it.
i wasnt planning on breeding bettas but it does seem interesting and i am going to research them. i am breeding swordtails tho and my gouramis dont wanna breed or my cories. my swordtail fry dont survive. so i might try betta cause i heard the father takes care of his fry and i think thats adorable.
its ok thx. do the males eat the babies when they free swim?but my one female swordtail is pregnant and should be giving birth the 20th of october hopefully.
oh i have to think twice about breeding bettas because of the clean water and the fighting and the food they have to eat! i wont be able to care for 100 babies i have two jars!!
at least you are kind enough to realize that you cant care for that many, so you wont breed them. thats very wise of you and save up a little at a time, maybe mow a lawn or rake some leaves? you can get a 10 gallon for around $12 at walmart
yea i have 50 dollars but with the heater and the gravel and ornaments and filter it willl cost more but i am gonna think about mowing lawns or raking leaves since it is fall good idea christinaross
i would be leary of dollar store artificial plants........never know what kind of dyes or paints were used to make those items.....Your taking the chance of them leeching something into your water and possibly harming your fish....... if you go the route of artificial plants, i would stick with ones made for aquarium use
soo i got a female betta yesterday and my boy betta does not want to build a bubble nest and he is flaring at her. when should he build a bubble nest? and when does he?can a blue female betta and a red boy betta mate?
how about the flaring part of the question.my female sometimes flares at the male.does this mean she doesnt like him or she likes him or shes just being territorial?
i think the male is really old he is around 2 inches and he doesnt have a lot of color on him.his fins are turning white in some parts. he is not sick.im not aloud to get a male until that one has passed away.my female is around an inch and they are young maybe around a year.if flaring is a part of courtship then why hasnt my male built a bubble nest?is it because he is to old?
You'll get your chance one day. Don't give up. If you get a younger pair, condition them properly and wait for the male to have a decent sized bubblenest going, you'll be more successful.
my one female named pearl is very plump im going to beg my parents to let me get another male and explain why.hopefully they will understand.but i highly doubt it.ur yerakina looks like me female dramaqueen
