Kribs pairing up

Hey guys

Over a week ago I put a pair of Kribensis in a 2 foot tank. Planted and with a nice cave. The tank has matured with other occupants since January. Problem is that the male is taking a long time to allow the female to "seduce" or "attract" his attention and he occasionally chases her away. Other occupants in the tank are guppies.

You just got these fish? They could be too young, to be spawning. Give them some time, are you doing anything to enduce spawning?

I did just get them, but they seem to be quite big and the female is showing off to the male quite a bit. What can I do to induce spawning?

Sometimes a sizeable water change can induce spawning.Have also had some luck with offering frozen meaty foods such as bloodworms,Brine shrimp,Krill.and or Mysis shrimp in addition to the flake or pellet food. Maybe offer the frozen foods two to three times a week and flake and or pellets on the remaining days.
Do keep in mind that fish are not unlike humans to some degree ,and they often prefer to select their own mates and may or may not ,accept a particular fish. Have found this to be specially true with cichlids if the male is smaller than the female. Doesn't sound as though that's the case here.
Give em some time , perhaps the male is just playin hard to get.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

Ok thanks 1077, I've been feeding with flake and freeze dried tubifex worms which they seem to love. An update, the female has dominated the cave and doing a bit of house maintainance by cleaning out gravel etc. Male has been excommunicated.

Just a short update. No breeding taking place yet, but the female has been showing off her stomach and the cave has basically been dug out. Females colours are really bright at the moment. Thinking about going bigger on the tank, but not sure yet.
