Kribensis breeding question

My girlfriend wants to try breeding kribensis. I don't really know anything about cichlids, so I'll ask these questions here:

She has a female kribensis about 1 to 1.5 years old in a 10 Gallon by herself. She is displaying nesting behavior (digging around in the substrate and such) and intense coloring. She also has two younger (1 - 1.5 inch long) female kribs in a divided 20 Gallon long that are showing brilliant coloration.

She wants to get rid of two of the girl kribs and remove the divider in the 20 gallon to set up a breeding tank.. We aren't quite sure how to go about this. She is most attached to the older krib, who is very aggressive with any tankmates (we've never tried a male krib).

Is it possible to just throw a male and a female together and have them pair up, or do we need to think about a small group first? Would the older aggressive female take to a male, or would we just be condemning him to being bullied around?

I would put the male with one of the younger kribensis because from my experience with rams the older one attacks the younger. Has the older one pair before because they form monogamous pairs and don't pair with another. If not then I would put a male with the older one and watch it carefully and if things don't work out then put the male with the younger two. So I would wait on getting rid of the younger ones.

I don't think that the older Krib has paired off. We had her in with a male who was about the same age when we first got her, but only for a couple weeks because he got really aggressive with her (ripped fins and all)

I never noticed any spawning behavior from them, it was just him beating her up. No flirting at all.

The I think you should be fine. Just get the biggest male possible.
