From what I understand some pairs are spouse abusers some are Bonnie and Clyde types towards the rest of the tank then you have your more peaceful pairs Jen off everything I between they are cichlids so each pair and mate will be different in terms of personality and aggression

Fortunately they calmed down today and the male is allowing the female to tend the eggs. They are on occasion doing some twitching and odd kiss pecking. I think they should get a room!

Its hard to get a dead reckoning on mating behaviors(for me) ..I have a pair that used to eat eggs every time, then female cruel to male, this time, although they only have a couple dozen swimmers with them, they couldn't do a better job.Practice, environmental situations, outside tank activity, and luck I think. But congrats on your practicing pair and young'uns!

Well spawn #2 was a disaster, but spawn #3 now has about 30-40 new swimmers and mom and dad seem to be handling things well...but very protective. I really need another tank setup if I'm going to take their breeding seriously. At this point, if many were to survive, I'm unsure what I'd do with them.

Well, you could unload a half dozen to me, and I could send you blacks or golds!

Well I'm sorry to say the numbers are dwindling. The parents move them around (by mouth) quite a bit and I'm afraid some go in and don't come back out! I'm down to a dozen or maybe 18 right now.

Is your female a little too frantic while the male puts up with being pushed around a little so he can lurk near the babies?

Hay you could try breeding wild angels like Manacapuru or even Altum. then you'd make serious cash- one guy I know of ( hes on another forum) is going to get $10 grand- yes that's ten thousand dollars! per spawn of wild Altum! '(sense you get about 3 spawns a year if you count growing out to selling time) thats an extra $30.000 a year.

Whats your ph?

Domestic angels on the other hand are not very valueable market wise you might get store credit from that store you got yours from but i wouldn't expect anything else.

This is why I only have 1 single angel- marbelloh. i dont want to deal with the hassle of fish raising.

If they're getting to the 2 1/2 to 3 week swimming mark they should be sprouting fins, I'd be looking at moving them to another tank before the pair spawns & sees them as a threat. This is the point where I move spawns from the 5 gallon hatching tank to a 20 gallon. For the numbers you have you could easily get them to sellable size in a 20.

Shops will give you $1, maybe $1.50 for nickel body size angels. I consistently sell out 150 angels at that price at local swaps, auctions with 3 to a bag usually bring considerably more. These events are a blast, besides covering gas & food expenses with fish sales you get to hang out & talk shop with a whole lot of people. You can often find things for a lot cheaper than any shop will sell them for, especially towards the end.

There's money in domestic angels if you do your homework, altums are a far step beyond discus, wilds are very discus like in the breeding approach.
