Near disappointment

I was checking on the wigglers last night and they were all gone... then I noticed they had been moved back to the original leaf they were laid on. I'm not sure why they moved them the few inches back to the other leaf. There should be swimmers soon if they make it. The wigglers seem so small though.

Thanks Jim. I have this little mom and pop pet store in a strip mall near me. The best fish I've ever had (including these angels) have come from this tiny store.

This morning I found that some of the wigglers were nearly swimmers but when any strayed from the plant leaf, a parent would scoop them up and redeposit some of them back on the leaf. It looked like some were being eaten.
The process would blow some more off the leaf and the process would repeat. Fearing they would all be lost, I broke out a net breeder and scooped up all that I could (about two dozen) which ended up leaving about a dozen left on the leaf.

They remained there the rest of the day, but later this evening I see that they are all gone. I'm glad I saved some. My plan now is to leave them in the net breeder for a time until they are larger and then I'll transfer to a 5g where I currently have a couple of tetra's in quarantine (new fish). I have a 10g I can setup if need be and some may come back to the 60g when big enough....however, I'll need new friends or need to speak to the LFS down the road to take some.

I'm starting them on Hikari frozen baby brine shrimp. Later on I'll introduce Omega One flakes that I will powder when feeding.

Well the fry are up and swimming around (yesterday after the rescue many were in between wigglers and swimmers and some just seemed to lay there). There's a good two dozen there.
I'm feeding them the frozen baby brine shrimp several times a day. I switched to using a medicine dropper as a gentle pour from a dixie cup caused the shrimp to flow out into the tank much too quickly. Okay for the neon tetras out there, but not for the fry.
I ground up a mix of Omega One Tropical Flakes, Veggie Flakes and Color Enhancing flakes to use when they get a little bigger.

Well, right now they're just tiny polywog like critters. I'm [also] looking forward to when they begin to look like angel fish.

And then there were 12!

My bad.

Everything was fine all day yesterday...but when I checked on them first thing this morning, many were missing from the breeder net. I saw a few down on the leaf, being 'mouthed' by the parents. The only thing I can figure is that there are little holes in the corners of the breeder net frame where it snaps together. I guess many squeezed through during the night. Bad lil fishies!

I quick transferred the two tetras from the 5g and emptied it. Then did my water change on the 60g a day or two early to use the tank water in the 5g and then moved the fry.
I only have about a dozen now.

(note: The holes in the breeder net corners were so small, it didn't seem like they'd be a problem. I'll seal it in the event of future use.)

I've been using "Marina holding tank" that way..it has little plastic grate that could do same thing.
