Is there evidence to sugest that this is actually possible , and if so, does it have to be male guppy to female Molly , or male Molly to female guppy ?? Posted via Mobile Device

My babies have been together in the big tank for a good 6 months now, not a single gravid female, I have 3 females 5 males that made it. The boys are trying their hardest but the girls just aren't getting caught!
Hi everyone. I just joined and was reading the posts and think I have a few Muppies. We love our balloon belly mollies and guppies but have recently found some add-balls. Could they be Muppies? They are not shaped like the rest of the baby balloon bellies, these have longer bodies like the guppies.
Thats what you may think, fish in pet stores are not always in the right tank( jumpers) or pet store workers put them there, such if someone changes their mind. Fish aren't always labled right either.
Never seen this happening before but I suppose it is possible because both of them are closely related (belonging to the same poecilia genus). But I would watch out for the level of aggression shown by the female molly towards the male guppy.
We are quite aware of the difference between standard and balloon belly mollies. We have had these mollies for over six months and have had several batches of fry from all of them and these are the first to look like this. Here is a pic of the females.
that is very cool.... now, if you keep a mix of livebearers in the same tank. are you running the risk of hybrid mixes of swords, plattys, mollies, and guppies?
Platies and swords can hybridize easily and be fertile, mollies and guppies can but its not common and they are likely sterile. Keeping them together with males and females of each species I would not except to see either hybrid.
