How to breed Discus

Time to sell them direct to customers yourself then!! Mind you $15 each will add up over time and help pay the bills for sure. But didn't you get them from a private breeder who was not doing a very good job? Did you buy up all of his stock/breeding pairs?
You are sitting on a gold mine... they retail as babies for $30- $50 a piece up here!! So the longer you keep them and the bigger they get the better. And don't forget you will be selling healthy ones and will make a name for yourself as a breeder. Word will get around!!

yes i live in a crappy town in wisconsin were everyone is so cheap so If i do sell them for 25 a piece thatd be a miracle :p I really just want a 500 gallon tank full of all my babys it would be so neat to see a huge huge tank with 100's of babys all jolly n swimming around lol :P

My Discus also spawn on the magnet in their tank. I'm not sure there's anything special other than it's an horizontal surface (which Discus require) and maybe has a slight different texture than other things in the tank? Discus cones (purchased through specialty retailers) are the "go to" spawning location when one is kept in a tank with a breeding pair.
I have one pair who always use the magnet for their spawns, but the other pair have used the side of the acrylic tank & also Anubias leaves. Unlike Plumkin I do not have the time or energy to raise a batch of fry. He's patient and willing to do the work!

I always thought rams preferred to spawn on a flat horizontal area? If so, a magnet wouldn't work anyway.

Now I haven't a second batch of wigglers! from the same pair going to start cycling my 55 gallon tank for the babys so in a month or so they will all go in there together :D the first batch is almost a month old now very exciting!! they are very red Ill show a video when they are exactly one month if you guys like :) heh an my angelfish that i raised since were eggs have now spawned there own eggs! :D

Boy, you are lucky! Yes, show a video!! What do you feed your Discus? Thanks to Kimmie about the magnet. My GBR's did have eggs once, but so far not again. Plumpkin, is there something special you feed or do to get them to spawn so successfully? Amazing

I really dont know what it is when ever I get fish an put them in the 75 gallon tank they love it so much they spawn , my blood parrots , angels , Discus , rams , everything spawned I was like the water must have something in it ;)

I just feed my fish , flakes , brineshrimp flakes , frozen bloodworms , beefheart keep the temp around 84-89F an I keep getting great results :D

That's good to know. I have my tank at 82-83. I did hear to crank it higher for breeding. I think I'll wait till spring, but than I'll put my temp up. Do fish stores sell frozen beefheart? Thanks!
