I got home from 2 weeks in Ireland, and found that two of my peacocks were holding. I went out and got a 10 gal set it up with my tank water and seeded it with some rocks. I got the two out and isolated them. Right away one of them let out a baby fish. they are both still holding. What do i do? Do i strip them both and put them back in the main tank? Or do i leave em in the small tank?

Please help. I am very new to the whole breeding thing.

Here are a few pics..

The pink peacock looks like there might be something wrong with her gills, is this normal?

IMO, leave them to do their job. Fry from mouthbrooders are much safer than those who lay their eggs where too many risks of predation are involved.

Either way will be okay. The fry themselves are well-protected inside their mothers' mouths.:)

I strip my females most of the time. I place the fry in 5g holding tanks until all are free swimming. The tanks are fairly heavily ariated with air stones. I also use an anti-fungal medication (methyline blue). The tanks are very spartan with just the airstone bubbler and a sponge filter (billi filters usually). There is no gravel in the tanks. The fishroom is heated so no heater is used. Congrats and good luck.
