Danio's are egg scatterers so try a substrate of marbles so the scattered eggs dont get eaten.
I used afry trap for my Oto's and danio fry swam in the trap and I raised them on c rushed tetra prima and catfish pellets.

A combination of marbles and dense planting worked for me. I removed the fry as I found them, and kept them in a breeding net inside the tank. Fed on crushed flakes and liquifry.

Get a small shoal of 6 for a ten gallons. They are rather easy to breed so I don't see why they can't unless they are sterile which there are no reports about it anyway.

Females should be plumper and bigger. Sexual dimorphism is rather easy.

there is another method.

when you vacuum your substrate,
keep the water in a bucket, add an airstone and a heater
and wait three days, if you see fry move to a tank for raising if not start again on the next gravel vac

I tried breeding zebra danios before also, but it didn't work for me either. I tried to seperate the sexes for a week or so, then mixed them and nothing happened. Then I had the 8 of them and they never bred. This was years ago and now I only have 2 left.
