Unhappy goldfish probloms

my goldfish are all going after my female goldfish. when i put her in a bucket and gave her some food she calmed down. then i put in another female goldfish. shimmer the name of the female that was being chaced was happy. but now i can't put her back in the tank because my other fish chace her and peck her. the baby tank fillter is not going to work for long. i have two red cap - common goldfish mix and two oradanas but i couldn't find shimmers breed. i once had two fish i didn't give up and they died. should i give up shimmer and try to relese he into the sea or could i save her in time. please she is the first goldfish i'v ever had and i love her so much.

I don't think the other gold fish will kill her, mine are doing it every 2ed day and they have yet to kill her.
They just want to breed, let them breed.

Are just gold fish in the tank?

What size is the tank?

Pleas take them back to the pet shop.
If you love the fish you will do it for them, not you.
If you cant just give them away.

I all also worry about my fish.

A 2 gallon tank is no where near big enough for a goldfish as they get about 10 inches long. The standard rule for goldfish stocking is 20 gallons for the first fish and an additional 10 gallons for every other fish. This means you need a 75 gallon tank to keep those fish. Since you cannot get a larger tank you should return the fish to the store. To keep them in that tiny space is cruel. Do not release them into the wild. This is illegal and will doom the fancies to death. A betta is a much better fish for that size tank.

but mine are fine. is only like once a week or more they do this and i found the problom. leo wanted to mate shimmer but the other fish got angry because they couldn't have her. so after a lot of moveing i put star ,coral and oradano into the buket and leo was fine with shimmer but now i thing oradano mated star because she is fatter than leo and leo is one inch fat! as for space they are as happy as ever now that the whole i want a mate thing is over. i cant buy a betta because i have a guppy tank only one cemtermieter away from the guppy tank and now i have the goldfish as active as ever. i think the reson why the goldfish were acting like that is because star was directly from the sea and they got home sick. thanks lol i'l try to save for a bigger tank with a stand i know a cheap place and the tanks are amazeing. just have to make mom see the problom.

No. Your fish are not fine. A tank that small cannot properly cycle which means that there is no way to deal with the waste coming from the fish. And trust me, there is a lot of it. Goldfish produce a lot of ammonia for their size. This means that your fish are swimming in their own wastes and lots of it. Ammonia is toxic to fish. Keeping them in that size tank will lead to their death.

For the mating, fish don't display emotions such as jealousy. They don't have the brain capacity. I also doubt it was true mating behavior because your fish are still too young to mate; they are just babies, probably no more than a few months old. What you saw was probably just some simple aggression related to adding a new fish. It happens, especially to fish crammed into tiny tank. Goldfish are freshwater fish and don't come from the sea (ie saltwater). They also don't get homesick; again it is too complex an emotion.

I think you need to do a bit more reading on goldfish. These articles will help you: GAB Gold fish Care Sheet and TFK Profile for Gold fish (Carassius auratus auratus)

Again. Since it is clear you can't get a 75 gal tank, I urge you to return your goldfish and get something better suited to a 2 gal tank like a betta. Being beside a tank with guppies doesn't have any effect on a betta. They just shouldn't be in tanks with them.

the reason they are chasing after each other there all cooped up in that tiny tank . how would you like being cooped up like that there's no room to move .

petco sells tanks for a dollar a gallon at least get a 20 gal
tell your mom you'll do chores to reimburse her

I agree with the thekoimaiden keep them in that tank they will be dead in no time from toxic poisoning from the extreme ammonia levels

i dont live anywere near pet co. my goldfish are fine and i looked at 46 goldfish care websites.some of my goldfish are mixed and dont grow over 10 inches and the shopkeeper has saved my fish 8 times so i trust him when he said that they dont grow over 8 inches and he showed me the goldfish size that the goldfish will get. it was 4 inches long and 5 inches wide. also the goldfish tank is six inches long and nine inches wide. the goldfish heve a good 14 inches to swim in. leo is only one inch long and maybe 2 inches wide and one inch tall he is a lion head and i saw a grown one and it fits into my tank. oradano and coral are red caps and wont grow big. star is a oradana and shimmer is a mix of somthing. so thanks anyway i will soon put a photo of the goldfish tank on the aquairm log so you can see them all.
