I just started digging a pit in my backyard so I could culture worms and other yummy treats for my black ruby barbs so they'll breed. Anyone else doing something crazy for their fish?
I went to the extreme of 11 cultures of 5 different live foods for mine. Grindal worms, fruit flies, white worms, vinegar eels and mealworms. I still have grindals and vinegar eels but mostly for feeding fry now, 3 vinegar eels and 3 grindals.
Earthies and other inverts. But I was forced to fill it in, cuz it was 6 feet deep.
BUT, I did get 2 buckets of sand for my aquariums.
I'm gonna start it again in a month though, with less depth.
Is it safe to use sand from underground? I am really interested beacause I live in Miami, Florida and I've dug a whole not so deep and easily found sand before. If its safe I would like to use it.
