crossbreeding guppies and endlers

I recently got 6 endlers(2M,4F),and 4 guppies(2M,2F) from a petstore.
the salesman told me I could keep them all together
and crossbreed them.

would this be ok to do?

what will the offspring look like?
will they be ugly?

I would never try it. The fry will still appear like guppies but not purely guppies. Keep the strains pure instead of trying to cross them. I've never tried crossing both species however it was widely believed that female Endlers tend to succumb to death due to the size of the fry albeit father being the Guppy. I cannot confirm this so it'll be merely rumor until proven fact but it could be possible.

I have kept and bred endlers for a few years now and once a few months back on of my black moscows jumped into the endler tank. Got some pretty cool cross breeds by accident they were the shape of a endelr and they were black like the moscow's Either way they ended up being fertile but I used most of them to cycle tanks or feeders. I would never suggest cross breeding, I like to keep my strains pure. and most people do as well. Also please be responsible and make sure cross breeds don't get sold to LFS or anyone unless they know.

Actually they won't be sterile, they will be the opposite... aka hybrid vigor. But in the end what you have are mutt fish that IMO are feeders. It would be better for both parties if they where kept separate and bred true, that is IF they are both true to their species ATM. There are so many hybrids in this hobby and I personally find them such a pain. If its labled as a hybrid and sold as one then fine, but so often hybrids are sold under a species name which is very irresponsible for any seller to do. It is poison to the pure gene pool.

I have a cross of endler and guppies. I have Gold Tiger endlers, Blue Tiger endlers Is a cross with a Japan Blue Guppy and tiger endler, and Pink/Scarlet endlers and all are nice looking like in the picture and I have no problems with them having babies. They are a cross between a endler and Guppy so they are a Hybrid. It is better to have a female Guppy as they are bigger in size and use a male endler so they do not have problems giving birth. www.Swampriveraquatics.com has alot to Hybrid endlers and they are very pretty. They also have them on www.aquabid.com also.

Endlers are becomming more and more rare in the wild, so I would suggest keeping the endlers pure for only that reason.

Of course, No one cares about keeping guppies pure, so I just give my male endlers "booty calls" to my Guppy tank when my endlers get pregnant.

Their offspring is not sterile- they are extremely close in genetics. I would not say they'll be ugly-

I agree to try to keep them pure if you have pure endlers. I got my Hybrids from Ebay and Aquabid. I'm working to get the Pink/scarlet line breeding true. As no females are available. I have a 4th generation Peacock X female that looks to be breeding true now as the offspring have the neon pink coloring in the males and the black bar on the side. I saw these at a aquarium store and the price for 1 male is $6.99. On Aquabid they do not even have this color and the Red Scarlets and the Red Chili pepper endlers which are the same can cost alot as I saw a trio on Aquabid go for $67 with a few babies.

I like the colors of these as they remind me of neon tetras and they stay small in size over guppies. I just got babies on 2/11/11 from my Thailand female endler throws off pink and red endlers I have 12. They look like swimming specks. The Peacock X Blonde female had 12 fry on 2/15/11 also but hers are double the size when born as she is part Guppy and endler and the Thailand female is a endler both of these females are in my 20 gal. Red Scarlet Tank. The Thai females fry I moved to a 3 gal. to get bigger as I did not want them to get eaten as they are tiny tiny. The other fry I just put them in with alot of floating plants and the tank is well planted for them to hide til they get bigger.

i've had my Endlers and my guppies, mollies and platties all in the same tank for over a year none of them have died and i have some very very beautiful endle and guppie hybrids i even have a mollie endler hybrids they look and are the same size as the endler but it has a nice fan like dorsal fin and longer tails.
When i first got them i was never told or even knew that these fish could breed but when i saw i had these awesome little fish one day i did my research. The fry from the female endler are the same size as the normal endlers and the guppie female fry are the size of the guppie fry all in all if you want to keep then pure dont mix the opposite sex but if you want to epic looking fish then by all means go for it

If you do a hybrid from Endler/Guppy always use a female Guppy and a male endler. The female endlers are smaller in size then a Guppy. If they are breed with male Guppy the babies will be big and may kill the small female endler so use a Male endler and cross with a female Guppy if you can.

Here is a picture of a very pretty hybrid metalic blue endler that I got. I only have 1. I bred it with a Blue Pastel ribbon fin female Guppy. I saved fry from the mom and kept 2 virgin females and put them in a 10 gal. tank with this one metalic blue endler I had. One female I had with him was a extended fin clear body ribbon fin, the other was a reg. Blue Ribbon fin that was about 3/4 black with some blue on it's tail. They had about 5 babies in my 10 gal. tank. I recently moved the again pregnate moms to a unfiltered tub pond outside they next day they had about 12 fry. I'm hoping for some nice metalic blue males soon. I may cross some of the offspring of my Blue tiger endler to some of the metalic blue endlers to get a metalic blue tiger with black stripes in the future. I will post pictures of the offspring once I get some nice looking ones that I'm trying to keep.
