that might be a good idea. that way they can lay their eggs on it (hopefully) and you can move them easily. it will also give them their own sort of egg teritrory.

because they're in a community tank do you think the other fish will eat the eggs if i dont get there quick enough or wil the corys defend them

Depending on what other fish you have they are likely to eat them. The parents also are likely to eat them and won't defend them at all.
