The problem with using a sponge on your siphon is then you don't get any crud out of the tank.
The air line tubing is way faster than the turkey baster though. I started this because if you have sensitive fry it's much easier on them I also put a bucket above the tank and use the air line tube to put water back into the tank to prevent current. This is also going to depend on the type of fry wither or not you have to take all these precautions. With Guppy fry I do major water changes 50% a few times a week, I'm working with rainbow fish now they do not like major water changes I don't touch there tank for the first 4 weeks then I'm only doing 10% changes and I'm still nervous I haven't got them mastered yet.
How often will depend on how many fry you have in the 10g.
