Question Breeding Platys for Colour

Hello there! As some of you know, I'm working my way towards breeding platys, but I don't understand fish colour genetics. (Horses, yes, fish, not so much. lol. )

Assuming that my parent fish are all bred from a constant color in their pedigree, would this fry colour prediction be correct?

Red Wag (orange body, black fins) + All Yellow= All Reds and Yellow Wags?

Or would I get a bunch of light orange fry? Do fish pass on definate dominant/recessive colour genes, or do they operate in "shades"?

Any help is hugely appreciated!

Experienced fish breeders get in here! I love genetics...

If you've crossed different colored fish, please post your results!

I was doing some research ont his last night, and an example whas a White Calico (WC) Breeding with a Orange Wag (OW). This is what he said would come out of it, if ti were a pure strain:

OW
OC
WW
WC

Does this make sense to you? I think it does to me. But he said that if it isnt a pure strain, atleast for the first few generations it will be nearly impossible to tell what will come out...

Check out my tanks. :)

Cool! Well that makes sense. 25% of the fry would be each color variation. (In the perfect world, of course. ;) )

So lets say Blue Mickey Mouse* X Red Wag=

-B
-BMM
-BW
-BWMM

-R
-RMM
-RW
-RWMM

That would be all the variations, right?

*Mickey Mouse is a color marking that looks like the classic Disney emblem.

Ooops! Accourding to the calculator, the results would be:

25% Blue/Red (Purple!?! ) *
25% Blue Wag
25% Red Mickey Mouse
25% Mickey Mouse Wag*

* Those probably translate to Blue Mickey Mouse Wag and Red Mickey Mouse Wag.

Alright cool. Ill keep looking arouns and stuff, tho :). And once again, this is only if u have pure lines. Which most commercial stores most likely will not have, i think. So the first few generations will be tough. And one thing i dont understand, what makes a wag platy a wag platy?

Check out my tanks. :)
