Breeding BN Plecos

Hi,
I am setting up a new aquarium to breed my green dragon plecos and I know how baby plecos love to get into filters if given the oppurtunity so I would like suggestions on good filtrations besides the hang inside the tank filter(not good pleco filters) and the ones that hang off the back of the tank (good with plecos not with eels.) Are the sponge filters any good? Any filter system suggestions are welcome:)

Thankkkkk Youuuuu

Sponge filters should be good, usually the better choice for tanks you intend to have youngsters in. Most filters are, you just have to dress up the intake tube so they can land on it and nibble if they want to, but not get hurt.

Good luck with your breeding plans. I want to see them, green dragons are awesome...they look like green long-finned BN plecos sorta on google...if you're willing to share photos of parents, and babies when you get them. :3 I'm very interested in breeding fish...I tried to breed long-finned calico BN plecos, but that didn't happen. lol Mainly because my female died and my male followed soon after due to a parasite in my tank last year. ><

Nice, some of those are downright gorgeous. I love plecos. :3 Maybe I'm weird for calling them gorgeous, but I can't help how I feel about them. Perhaps some day, if you ever sell some youngsters, I'll look you up. =)

Sponge filters are the best for most breeders to my knowledge, there may be better ones. They're just not as likely to suck up fry, though normally there's not a huge chance of that since the dad usually cares for the brood and chauffeurs them to it.

I have a rescue pleco I named Oscar, he was under "Common Pleco" the ones that get about two feet long. Lost -all- of his fins, dorsal and half of his tail, he's grown everything back now. Though I admit he looks a bit odd because he grew in those couple months it took to regenerate, like his tail doesn't seem to fit his body, it's not as bad as it looks, he's got it curled around the plant. lol I hate going by petco titles since they're often wrong(though not always), perhaps you can tell me if he's really one of the large commons or something else? He just doesn't look like my aunts huge common pleco to me(though considering hers is near two feet long and mine is barely seven inches)...but then he did get ripped up by cichlids and have to regrow just about everything, miracle he lived.

Awww poor pleco:( oscar actually looks like a rhino pleco to me. The photo u sent is a little hard to see ita blurry but it looks like has sections or patches of black and brown or tan. And his size sounds like hed fit the rhino pleco too. The rhino pleco only gets to be 11 inches so not as big as the common/ trinidad pleco or the sailfin (fancy common pleco with big dorsal fin and tail). Maybe a better pic or u can look up the rhino pleco and compare. And I will let u know when my bns start breeding

He's a dark green with almost perfectly spaced tan stripes and black spots(I assumed dark calico for his colors, I have yet to find a common pleco that looks like him, his shape is a tad off...and his color which I suppose can happen to any).

It's possible, but what I can find on photos of rhino plecos he's not quite as extreme with his looks. I'm kinda hopeful he is though, they're quite neat. =) He almost reminds me of a backwards gold spot pleco. But as you can see, his spots are black, not gold. lol

I'd love to get a better photo of him, but he's shy and doesn't like lights.

Ive seen sailfins that look like him. But he doesnt get to show off his original fins. I know petco sells sailfin pleco which are considered common plecos maybe thats why thatd why they called him that.I actually saw a sailfin that looked just like yours in the tank that I got my sailfin at petsmart. Now im so curious to know what he is lol!

Oh wow, he looks a bit like a leopard sailfin, or just a Leopard Pleco, or possibly some kind of mix maybe, is that even possible? His dorsal isn't tiny, but it's not like theirs...quite possibly due to losing it all, but it's still pretty brilliant considering. Thanks! Sorry, kinda took over your thread, you just had so many plecos I thought I could ask you for a real answer. He may or may not be, but it's something and looks like him. A few do anyways.
