Betta Breeding Update #1

Hi everyone, I said I would keep you posted on how the breeding is going, so here goes!

I started my brine shrimp hatchery yesterday, and this morning when I looked in the hatchery there was
a whole whack of tiny little orange dots... brine shrimp! This is my first time ever raising brine shrimp or breeding fish, so I'm pretty darn excited about this! Also, my 2g breeding tank is all set up... The water temp. is 81F... Perfect! Fiona (my female betta) is inside a large jar, in the tank, and Barbossa (the guy) is going carzy around her. He has calmed down a bit now (HA... hardly!), but is not building a bubble nest. I have heard that is can be days before he builds a nest, and they have only been in there for about an hour. Still, I would love it if someone were to tell me how long it takes for the male to make the bubble nest. Also, should I leave Fiona in her jar until he builds the nest, even if it takes, say, three days?

I'll post pictures later, once I figure out how... mine always end up too big

Well, you can look at a picture-less tank log, at this link: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/fishtanks.php#a2367
I guess it's better than nothing!

Yep you CAN keep the female in the tank unless hes done. You can never tell how long it will take. Just try to put her in there even though he isn't finished with the bubblenest, some males will not make one unless he is finished spawning!! but if you want you can just wait (if you want, everytthing is your call your the breeder do what you feel.)

Thanks, bettalover! Super helpful! I've let her out of the jar, and Barbossa is not being too hard on her... while I was letting her out, I accidently popped some of his bubbles, so right now her is furiously rebuidling! Oops!
