Before you breed

This is to give those that decide to breed their fish a heads up. A lot of Local fish stores will take your fish but only when they are a sellable size. What does this mean? It means a huge headache if you are not prepared.

Example:
You have 8 mollies, 2 males and 6 females.
All 6 females breed and within 1 week of each other they all give birth. Wanting to make as much money as we can we try to save all 200 of them.
This means 200 fry to sellable size which in most cases is 1 inch. 200 inches of fish = a 100 gallon tank minimum! Even if you only wanted to keep 50 of them it is at least a 35 gallon tank just to get $0.35 each for the fry.

The moral, be ready to deal with the fry and possibly having to raise them to half of the adult size before being able to sell them. And then you can only get rid of them IF your LFS needs them at that time.
